Buckley, or sometimes called Buck, is a neutered 6-year-old male currently residing in the Portland area with his first owners. He has never been registered, but paperwork can be provided if this is something you would like to do. The reason he is being re-homed is that after the owners recently had a baby
and this has caused Buck to developed some anxiety issues, leading him to
occasionally attack the other lab that lives in the household. They have
done some training with him with trainers and the family vet, but currently
the owners don't have the time to put into the training needed to help Buck
overcome his anxiety so the owners feel it is best to try and find a home for him with no other pets or children. The current owners care very much for him and would like to be updated on how he is doing from time to time. He's
a great dog and has house training, which was a breeze with him as he is very smart. No accidents since he was 4 months old. He enjoys the outdoors; hiking, swimming - he'll play endless fetch with a ball. He has no hunting experience to date. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate every night. He also goes into the crate anytime he is left alone in the house, not because he would destroy anything, but because he prefers his crate, as it is his safe place. He's never once slept outside overnight; therefore, a home that will continue to have him be an indoor dog is being sought.
He has lived in a single-family home with access to a large fenced yard. He can access the yard himself through a screen door he's able to push open, and when the door is closed, he is trained to "knock" to go out.
He would also convert to using a dog door rather easily as well.
He knows the basic commands: sit, down, off, wait, come, and "ok" is his
release word to eat. He's also somewhat recently learned to "place" on a
cot, and he's held that for 1+ hours. He can at times be lazy with commands,
but he knows them. Leash manners vary, with pulling being his main issue. He
gets excited and wants to "go faster." One of his trainers has introduced
him to a no-pull prong dog collar to help remind him not to pull. On walks,
he notices other dogs and might whine a little, but he doesn't lunge or
bark. To distract him when other dogs are present, the command "leave it"
along with a small treat is used. To keep him focused on a leash when
passing another dog in a tight space, he is led to swing wide or use the
"stop" command to make him sit and wait until the other dog passes just as a
precautionary measure. If you are interested in Buck, please reach out to the current owner.
